Anyone in need of information regarding passport services may call or stop by the Oxford County Probate Court who are authorized by the U.S. Department of State to accept passport applications. They are located at 26 Western Avenue in South Paris, ME 04281 and are opened between 8:00am and 3:30 pm M-F. The phone number is (207) 743-6671 and the fax number is (207) 743-4255. All the forms necessary to apply are available there.
Generally what is needed is an official copy of one’s birth certificate together with a picture ID- such as a driver’s license. An applicant needs to prove whom they are and that they are U.S. citizens.
The cost of an adult Passport is $110.00 plus a $25.00 execution fee. The cost for ages 16 and under is $80 plus the $25 execution fee. It will take between 4 and 6 weeks to receive a passport. However there is a process available to issue passports very quickly when there is an emergency.(If rush is needed within 2 weeks, it is an extra $60 plus an additional $14.96 overnight charge is added to the regular fees).
Passport Cards are available as well for those traveling with no flying involved. The cost is $30 for an adult; $15 for a child under 16 years of age with the $25 processing fee as well.
People who plan to travel out of the United States (even to Canada, Mexico or the Caribbean) will find that a passport will make exit and return much more convenient.
