TOWN OF OTISFIELD
BOARD/COMMITTEE APPOINTMENT POLICY
Purpose: To ensure that there is a clear understanding of the procedure and a consistent form of communicating Board/Committee vacancies.
Scope: All Board or Committees.
Procedure: 1. Selectmen must be notified at a public meeting of a vacancy.
Notification must be in writing.
2. Determination to be made by Selectmen if vacancy will be filled.
3. Once it is determined that the vacancy will be filled, the following will occur: (All ads to include position, deadline)
a.) Newspaper advertisement of vacancy
b.) Posted on Town web site (when available)
c.) Posted at Town Office
d.) Posted at Transfer Station
4. The vacancy will be open for a minimum of 14 days..
5. Individuals wishing to apply must fill out an application and return it to the Town Office prior to deadline.
6. Applications to be reviewed by Selectmen at the next Selectmen’s meeting.
7. If requested by Selectmen, the applicant might be asked to attend a Selectmen’s meeting to be interviewed.
8. A letter of notification will go to all successful and unsuccessful applicants within 7 days of a determination.
9. Board/Committee chair will also be notified.
It is the goal to encourage citizens to volunteer in order to better our community.
The following are some traits that will be considered:
1. Able to make meetings.
2. Energetic
3. Team player who works well with others, to strive to help the committee succeed in its mission.
4. Understands that they are representing the entire community
5. Positive in addressing issues.
All committees that are project specific will have an end date determined and adhered to.
